Man you are excited!  You have your own home business.  You’ve signed forms and you will receive your business kit in 7 to 10 days.  Your enroller has talked with you and sent you to a training site.  Once you get those trainings under your belt, you will have the home business you have always dreamed of having.  No more J-O-B!  You have goals and dreams – You have plans!!

You get your kit and oh oh, there are a few glitches with your home business schedule and your family schedule.  You’ve committed to baking cookies for the Cub Scouts.  You promised your daughter that you would go on a field trip.  You have made that commitment to your enroller to put in some time building your business.  So, you squeeze in a half hour and approach two of your friends and both of them were not that enthusiastic, in fact one even said no.  Now you are thinking about getting your money back, after all they did offer a 100% money-back guarantee. You start contemplating this business venture you “got yourself into” and begin to think that this isn’t what you really had in mind when you dreamed of having your own home business.  You even begin thinking that you didn’t want to do this anyway.

Have any of you felt this way or maybe this sounds like what your best friend went through.

Well, here are some tips that might help you gain the momentum you need to get started:

1.  RESEARCH your company, if you haven’t already done this.  What is their standing in the business community?  What is their growth pattern?  Who are the leaders?  COMPLETE your trainings so you can learn about your company’s policies and procedures.  LEARN as much as you can from the websites and resources offered by your company.  If there are products involved, use them.  IMMERSE yourself in your products.  Learn as much as you can about the benefits of the products – why others need to use the products offered by your company.

2. PARTNER UP with people in your company.  Find someone who is excels in the company and ask if they will mentor you.  MIMIC the top leaders.  Glean as much knowledge as you can from these leaders.

3.  NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!  Find team boards, or team groups within your company that shares information on what they are doing that works.  There are many work-at-home forums on the internet.  Find those that have boards with other people from your company.  Join them and read what other representatives from your company do to build their business.  Sign up for newsletters or groups that are in a similar business such as yours.

4. READ, READ, AND KEEP ON READING.  Many home-based business entrepreneurs like to read books by author, John Maxwell since he writes on leadership.  Also look for authors that know “their stuff” when it comes to networking.  If your company has a tape library learn from the top leaders in your organization.  Make it your goal to read at least one motivational book a month.

5.  WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS.  It is a good idea to develop your long-term goals and then work back from there to develop the steps to reach those goals.  Having a business plan and developing goals are your roadmap to success.  Most people plan their trips, so why not make a plan to reach your goal and destination with a home business.  If you’ve never been in a home business or any business, it’s like going on a trip.  Without making plans and having that road map, you most certainly will loose sight of the road that you need to be on to reach your destination.

6.  SHARE what you learn with the people you refer to your company.  You know the saying “What goes around, comes around.”  Or better yet, “What you sow is what you reap.”  By applying these principles to your business, not only you, but also your team, will achieve their goals and dreams.  In addition, you will have a team that will catch your excitement and vision for their home business!
